You may not know who I am, but thank you anyway!

There comes a time when you achieve more if you’re held accountable for something.

Am I right?

As you might know already, I’ve started training for a 10K run in July and raising money for The Rotary Club of Guildford’s Eye Project which focuses on avoidable blindness across the developing world.

I am beyond grateful for the response and the donations that I have received so far. I know that every pound donated will have an impact on those who are visually impaired, especially because it only takes £5 for life saving operation.

Since signing up for the run with some friends, I have discovered the The Running Bug, which devises a training plan according to your fitness level. It portions out the training into manageable chunks during the week….as long as you stick to it!

After a long day in class or labs, the last thing I want to do is to go to the gym or go for a run. This is why I have always preferred to wake up early and go in the morning. Lately though, it’s been a struggle to actually get out of bed and down to the gym.

Yep, we’ve all experienced it –

Just 5 more minutes’ turning into…’I overslept by an hour!’.

Receiving sponsorship for the run though makes me more inclined to actually follow through. Not only do I owe it to myself to give it my best shot but I owe it to the people sponsoring me with their hard-earned money not to mention of course, the people that will benefit from it all.

The more people that seem to know about the run, my training and my goal to do it in a certain time, the more accountable I feel to making it happen.

So, you might now know me, but thank you.

Thank you for making me press snooze, one less time this morning!

So Today: What can you follow through with?

Whether you’re a fan of Kanye West or not, one thing will still be true…we’re all striving to achieve something. We may have succeeded in one aspect of our lives, but there is always more we can do or have the desire to achieve.

This is a similar post to last week’s post on Charlie Brown’s song, ‘On My Way’. Here, we are aware of the end point, e.g. a set of exams, a deadline, maybe an interview that we need to prepare for. We may be working hard for it but we know there is more we can do and that there is room for improvement during the process.

Don’t lose sight of the end goal, stay focused and when you feel like quitting, remember why you started.

One last thing, a lot of the time we are too fixated on the final goal; life does not work out how we plan. You may put everything into preparing for an interview but still be unsuccessful.

Remember to enjoy the journey because that’s where we learn the most.

So today: Know your destination & enjoy the view whilst you ride!

Life

In an ideal world, we would be able to press:

Fast Forward through the pain and the challenges of life

Rewind to the best memories

and

Pause on the greatest moments.

Yet, unfortunately life is not so easy; it comes with neither a remote control nor an instruction manual.

We are left to learn and experience it for ourselves.

Is this scary? Of course!

But actually taking responsibility for our actions and our experiences ultimately have the greatest impact on us. Greater experiences prepare us for future challenges and enable us to change the ‘channel’ of life if we are unhappy watching a certain ‘programme’!

So todayIf you are not happy, take one step, no matter how small towards changing your life for the better!

see the invisible

Most of us would like to do our bit for the world; we fund raise, we volunteer in countries far and wide, we try to live our lives with integrity. Sometimes however, we forget to see that we can also make a difference closer to home, by seeing ‘the invisible’, the ones everyone else forgets about.

‘It always seems impossible, until it is done’ – Nelson Mandela

Many of our most essential gadgets or inventions stemmed from one single idea, nurtured by unwavering faith that one day, it would take shape and prove its worth.

So today:

Take a moment to observe through a different lens. Was that person just being rude this morning, or were they actually stressed because of their situation at home? Did you see the homeless man huddled up next to the tube station or did you walk on by?

Today: See the Invisible; see the people, see their own individual stories.

Did something happy by coincidence? Was it too good to be true?

Today: Believe the incredible.

We all get frustrated when things don’t go a certain way. Don’t give up, persevere or try a different approach. Whatever you do…

Today: Attempt the impossible.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Dreams

Does this seem strange? A lot of the time, we often limit ourselves into believing we are incapable of achieving things; we often deem it as ‘impossible’ because we’re not <<insert adjective>> enough.

However, I have found that having goals that evoke fear can actually be good. They allow us to tap into the inner strength we all have but don’t use often enough as we should. Each time we do though, we gain a little momentum and somehow, that seemingly impossible goal becomes more of a reality.

So today, reevaluate. Do your dreams scare you?

I'm On My Way

Many of us, whether we’re studying for exams or working on coursework have moments where we struggle. It can be frustrating to not see the end of the tunnel; often the journey can seem never ending, and we lose our motivation.

Remember, we might not be where we would like ourselves to be right this minute, but we will get there. Don’t lose hope. As long as we keep taking one step at a time, every single day, it will happen.

‘Might not be on the top of the world but hey, I’m on my way’

– Charlie Brown.
